Auburn Youth Symphony
Call for Auditions: Fall Season 2007-2008

The Auburn Youth Symphony is enrolling musicians for the upcoming fall semester. Please contact David Thorp at dsthorp@yahoo.com or (530)635-6193 to schedule an audition appointment or to obtain more information on this challenging, performance-based program.

Incoming students are requested to bring and play a favorite selection, which best represents their skill level. They will also be expected to “sight read” a selection provided by the Conductor. Students between the ages of nine and 19 currently enrolled in private lessons are eligible to audition.

The Youth Symphony is currently being led under the exciting musical direction of David Thorp. David earned an M.M. degree in 1978 studying with violist Lillian Fuchs at the Manhattan School of Music, New York City. He has served as principal violist of the American Philharmonic Orchestra of Carnegie Hall with conductor Rohan Joseph. He has been principal violist of the Apollo Orchestra since 1983 and of the Auburn Symphony since 1995. He currently has a full teaching schedule including the Music and More Arts Academy of Auburn and numerous performing engagements in California and Nevada in addition to those in the Stockton Symphony, and the North State Symphony.

Rehearsals are held Monday evenings at 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Dewitt Theater, located in the Dewitt Center off Bell Road in Auburn. Tuition is $150.00 per semester , with parent participation in support activities.

Our fall semester concludes with our annual winter concert in early December, and our spring semester concludes with our annual appearance with the Auburn Symphony at the “Music on the Green” concert in May. In addition to these concerts, the Youth Symphony presents two mini-concerts at local schools each semester, and a performance at a very appreciative retirement home in Auburn.
